MINSK, 11 November (BelTA) – The Cathedral Mosque will become a symbol of friendship between the people of Belarus and Turkey, Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said as he attended the mosque opening ceremony in Minsk, BelTA has learned.

“We are witnessing a truly historic moment as we are attending the opening ceremony of the Minsk mosque, the construction of which was completed with the assistance of the Presidency of Religious Affairs of the Republic of Turkey,” Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said. He said it was a great pleasure for him to attend the opening of such an important religious site with his dear friend and colleague – Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko.

“On behalf of the people of Turkey and myself, I thank everyone who has contributed to the construction and opening of the mosque. It will become a symbol of friendship between the people of Belarus and Turkey,” Recep Tayyip Erdogan said.

The Turkey President also thanked Belarus for the friendly attitude to the Muslims living in the country.
