ROME, 6 February (BelTA) – The European Olympic committees are satisfied with the progress in the preparations for the 2nd European Games in Belarus, President of the European Olympic Committees Janez Kocijancic said as he met with Belarus Prime Minister, Chairman of the National Organizing Committee of the 2nd European Games Minsk 2019 Sergei Rumas in Rome on 6 February, BelTA has learned.
“I would like to make a statement on behalf of the European Olympic Committees: we are very satisfied with the work of the European Games organizing committee in Belarus. I know that you are very committed to this work,” Janez Kocijancic said. The EOC also commends the work of the Minsk European Games Organizing Committee (MEGOC).
Janez Kocijancic offered to discuss cooperation on two issues. “The first one is staff training. We are getting closer to the start of the games, all positions must be filled with very competent and well-trained people. The second issue is the decision-making process. At the final stage of the preparations the organizing committee and its operational staff must have the maximum authority to get the problems settled in the quickest possible way,” he said.
The EOC president told the media that he and the Belarusian premier talked over the usual set of issues related to the organization of large-scale events. The National Organizing Committee and the EOC will continue coordinating efforts to ensure the European Games 2019 are a success.
Minsk will host the 2nd European Games on 21-30 June 2019. Over 4,000 athletes from 50 countries will compete in 199 medal events in 15 sports. Competitions in eight sports will serve as qualifiers for the Olympic Games 2020 in Tokyo. Competitions in badminton, boxing and judo will be counted as the official European championships.
