Elderly people in Belarus urged to stay home

MINSK, 24 March (BelTA) – The Belarusian Healthcare Ministry urges the elderly to stay indoors over the coronavirus infection, Belarus’ Deputy Healthcare Minister Yelena Bogdan told the media on 23 March, BelTA has learned.

Healthcare workers from around the world launched a campaign to encourage people to stay indoors - “I stay at work for you, you stay at home for us”. “We have joined this campaign with a purpose to support our healthcare workers and to curb the spread of the virus,” Yelena Bogdan said.

Doctors and nurses worldwide are urging people to stay at home unless it is absolutely essential in order to stem the spread of the COVID-19. Belarusian infectology specialists, anesthesiologists, emergency physicians, epidemiologists, general practitioners, virologists, laboratory specialists, and nurses are taking part in the #StayAtHome campaign. They are calling on elderly people, people having chronic disease and those who show even slightest symptoms of a respiratory infection to self-isolate.

“We urge people, in particular, the elderly and people with chronic diseases, to refrain from attending mass events, as these groups of people suffer the most from this infection,” Yelena Bogdan added.
