Drawing on Soviet heritage, experience, achievements described as Belarus’ strong suit

MINSK, 22 November (BelTA) – Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko spoke about Belarus’ major strong suit as he met with students at Minsk State Linguistic University on 22 November, BelTA has learned.

“I gave instructions to build an exhibition center. It will open its doors soon. The center will be opened especially for you, because I see that the youth does not know Belarus. Some know other countries better than Belarus. Young people will come there and see what we do with our own hands,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said.

Plans are in place to build a new building for the National History Museum in Minsk, the president said. “We want to show everyone that are not Ivans who do not remember their kinship. We have deep roots,” the head of state said.

Aleksandr Lukashenko said that the history of the Belarusian statehood began a long time ago – with the Principality of Polotsk and the Principality of Turov. “I am trying to do something for the youth, not even you, but your children, to come and see that we have such a rich history and that we can do a lot,” the Belarusian leader said.

According to the president, the success of Belarus is that the country did not forget about its heritage, and preserved the experience and achievements of the Soviet era.

“We have been improving and achieved a lot. If we had given up on it, we would have had no money to produce something new. One needs big money for everything. Where can we take it from today? Extra, reserve money. Gas, oil, metals and so on. What do we have of these? Nothing, except our brains. We held on. We have developed thanks to the fact that we have not given up on what our ancestors created before,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said.
