MINSK, 30 July (BelTA) – The draft new Constitution is a concept of the future of Belarus, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko said as he met with senior local government officials to discuss topical social and political issues in Minsk on 30 July, BelTA has learned.
The Belarusian leader suggested raising the awareness of the population about the legislative changes. This is especially important now, when work is underway on the draft of the new Constitution, the president said.
"The amendments proposed to the Basic Law are a concept of the future of Belarus. The future, which we have discussed during dialogue platforms, in public associations, enterprises and universities. Everyone who wanted to voice their opinion was heard," Aleksandr Lukashenko said.
The head of state noted that a referendum will be held to adopt the Constitution. It should be organized in an exemplary fashion. "Now we see a flood of poisonous fakes on this matter. I would like to stress once again that we have adopted a decision at the Belarusian People's Congress to hold the referendum no later than February next year. So it will be so," the Belarusian leader emphasized.
