Dozens of Swiss companies implement projects in Belarus

MINSK, 9 February (BelTA) – Dozens of Swiss companies have been successfully implementing economic projects in Belarus, Head of the Swiss Confederation Embassy Service Pascal Aebischer said at a function held at the House of Friendship on 9 February to mark 25 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries, BelTA has learned.

Over 25 years Belarus and Switzerland have managed to create a robust foundation of mutual relations. “Ties of friendship unite the two countries. Belarus and Switzerland are building cooperation on the basis of bilateral agreements which make the foundation for the development of relations in the political, economic, and cultural sectors,” Pascal Aebischer stressed.

The head of the Office of the Embassy of Switzerland said that there are a lot of examples of successful cooperation. Stadler has been effectively working in Belarus, brining its latest technologies to the country. The launch of direct flights between Minsk and Geneva operated by Belavia has also contributed to the strengthening of ties.

In turn, Head of the Europe Department at the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Yevgeny Vorobyov noted that Belarus and Switzerland do not set forth globally ambitious goals, but gradually develop their cooperation in the political and economic sectors. Nearly 140 Switzerland-funded companies operate in Belarus.

The Belarusian official thanked Switzerland for support provided to Belarus as part of the Chernobyl Children program.

It was also noted that the Office of the Swiss Embassy opened in Minsk in 2007 to intensify the Belarusian-Swiss ties.

Chairperson of the Belarusian Society of Friendship and Cultural Ties with Foreign Countries Nina Ivanova emphasized great prospects for further development of cooperation between Belarus and Switzerland.
