Do Van Mai: Vietnam confirms plans to expand ties with Belarus

MINSK, 22 January (BelTA) – Vietnam will continue expanding ties with Belarus, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Vietnam to Belarus Do Van Mai said at the meeting in the House of Friendship on 21 January. The meeting was timed to the 23rd anniversary of the establishment of the Belarusian-Vietnamese diplomatic relations, BelTA has learned.

The diplomat underlined that Vietnam and Belarus have been consistently promoting cooperation in all walks of life. The countries have developed good relations in politics, economy, science and culture. The two states are interested in boosting the bilateral trade in goods and services. Vietnam believes the bilateral relations will grow even stronger on the back of the free trade agreement with the Customs Union. Secretary General of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam Nguyen Phu Trong visited Minsk at the end of 2014. At the meeting with Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko, the parties confirmed their plans to advance the bilateral cooperation and partnership to the highest level possible.

Chairperson of the Presidium of the Belarusian Society of Friendship and Cultural Relations with Foreign Countries Nina Ivanova noted that Belarus has great respect for the friendly nation of Vietnam. The House of Friendship hosts many events aimed to educate Belarusians about Vietnam and joint projects.

Deputy Chairman of the Permanent Commission for International Affairs of the House of Representatives, head of the parliament’s working group to promote cooperation with the Vietnamese parliament Vitaly Busko drew attention to the importance of intensifying Belarus-Vietnam interparliamentary ties.

Chairman of the Belarusian Union of Vietnamese War Veterans, Chairman of the Belarus-Vietnam Society Mikhail Vinogradov noted that Vietnam appreciates Belarus’ assistance in its fight for independence. A testimony to that is the meeting of Nguyen Phu Trong with the Vietnamese war veterans from Belarus and activists of the Belarus-Vietnam Society during his visit to Minsk. The video documenting the meeting was shown during the meeting at the House of Friendship.

The meeting concluded with a concert of Vietnamese students who performed national songs and dances.
