MINSK, 22 February (BelTA) - Under the guise of NATO exercises, strike groups may be deployed near the borders of Belarus, Defense Minister Viktor Khrenin said in an interview with Russia 24 TV channel, BelTA has learned.
“We see their active movement. The commander-in-chief’s task is to stay alert. After all, under the guise of exercises, strike groups can be deployed. This is the most important task for us - to see whether these groups are deployed or not,” Viktor Khrenin said.
The exercises, declared by the North Atlantic Alliance, envisage a task group deployment, the defense minister stressed. “We carefully evaluate and observe the ranges they come to, their composition. If it really starts to turn into the deployment of more powerful groups or something else, there will be a response from our side,” Viktor Khrenin assured.
