Czech Republic invited to tap into Belarus’ potential as EAEU member

MINSK, 6 June (BelTA) – The Czech Republic could use Belarus’ potential as the member of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) more actively, Chairman of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus Mikhail Myasnikovich said as he met with a delegation of the Senate of the Parliament of the Czech Republic led by Chairman of the Committee for Foreign Affairs, Defense and Security Frantisek Bublan on 6 June, BelTA has learned.

“The Czech Republic could tap into Belarus’ potential as the EAEU member to increase trade, investments, and implement humanitarian and other projects,” the chairman of the Council of the Republic said. Belarus counts of Czech investors to develop joint business.

The speaker voiced several more proposals that should facilitate the expansion of bilateral contacts. He believes that Belarus and the Czech Republic need to expand the legal framework of bilateral cooperation. The two states are currently examining nine draft agreements, including the one on scientific and technical cooperation. The implementation of the agreement on scientific and technical cooperation will promote contacts between Belarusian and Czech youth, universities, and research centers, Mikhail Myasnikovich said. He expressed the hope that the Czech MPs will support the agreements that are already under consideration and encourage new agreements. The Council of the Republic also advocates the activation of contacts between the regions.

Mikhail Myasnikovich added that Belarus considers the Czech Republic as an important trade, economic and political partner in Europe and expressed confidence for more active contacts, including parliamentary ones, between the two countries. He believes that the parties should make the best use of the opportunities that international platforms and bilateral contacts provide. The speaker is confident that Belarus and the Czech Republic could have more joint projects and initiatives.
