MINSK, 6 June (BelTA) - Czech MPs support the signing of the framework agreement on cooperation between Belarus and the EU, Frantisek Bublan, the head of the delegation of the Senate of the Parliament of the Czech Republic, Chairman of the Committee for Foreign Affairs, Defense and Security, said during a meeting with Chairman of the Council of the Republic Mikhail Myasnikovich, BelTA has learned.
Frantisek Bublan noted that Belarus and the EU need the framework agreement. “It would be nice to finish the negotiations and sign the framework agreement, which would then create the basis for other specific agreements,” he said.
During the meetings with the Belarusian MPs, the Czech delegation discussed, among other things, the cooperation in the Eastern Partnership initiative, the Partnership for Peace program. The Czech side views Belarus' participation in these projects as very important. The Czech Republic also highly appreciates Belarus’ role in the settlement of the conflict in the east of Ukraine.
For his, Mikhail Myasnikovich took note of the strong positions of the Czech Republic in the EU, the voice of which is heard there. He confirmed Belarus’ interest in active economic and political cooperation with Europe.
As it was reported earlier, at the Eastern Partnership summit in Brussels in November last year, Belarus’ Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belarus Vladimir Makei noted that the conclusion of the framework agreement between Belarus and the EU was a matter of immediate future. This document defines the principles of cooperation, the institutional framework, and creates a solid legal basis for interaction between Belarus and the EU.
