Czech ambassador sees good prospects for interregional cooperation with Belarus

Czech ambassador sees good prospects for interregional cooperation with Belarus

MINSK, 1 June (BelTA) – The regions of Belarus and the Czech Republic have great cooperation prospects, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Czech Republic to Belarus Milan Ekert said as he met with Chairman of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus Vladimir Andreichenko on 1 June, BelTA has learned.

“The interregional cooperation between Czechia and Belarus is rapidly growing. The ties with Minsk Oblast and Grodno Oblast are particularly vibrant. Three cooperation memorandums have already been signed,” Milan Ekert noted. Talks are underway on resuming ties with Gomel Oblast. Another focus is on Brest Oblast. Plans have been made to find a partner in the Czech Republic for Belarus’ Vitebsk Oblast.

Belarus and Czechia have great potential for boosting the economic cooperation, Milan Ekert believes. He noted that Prague played host to a meeting of the intergovernmental commission for cooperation two weeks ago, and the meeting was fruitful. Milan Ekert also took note of the good prospects for the cooperation in power engineering and agriculture. He pointed out that “the countries could have a business council that would provide support to projects before they are considered by the intergovernmental commissions.”

The diplomat added that Belarus and Czechia have many opportunities for stepping up their cooperation in culture. Czech folk groups give performances in Belarus. The regions are currently hosting the traveling photo exhibition Belarusian Prague. “We would like to show the Prague period of life of Francysk Skaryna, to show Prague as it is, and the places in Czechia where Belarusians lived,” the ambassador added.
