MINSK, 23 October (BelTA) – The choice of Belarus for my first foreign visit testifies to the importance of cooperation with the country, Cuban President Miguel Mario Diaz-Canel Bermudez said as he met with Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko on 23 October, BelTA has learned.
“Belarus is one of the first countries I am visiting in the capacity of the President of the Republic of Cuba. This shows the priority we give to the relations with your country,” he said.
The visit will give an opportunity to continue the discussion of the issues that were touched upon three years ago during Miguel Mario Diaz-Canel Bermudez’s visit to Belarus as the First Vice President of the Council of State and the Vice President of the Council of Ministers of Cuba. “I have warm memories of that visit as I learned a lot about the culture and history of the heroic Belarusian nation. During the meeting with you [the Belarusian president] and the government meetings I saw how strong the friendship between our nations is.”
The Cuban leader thanked Aleksandr Lukashenko for the greetings the Belarusian president sent to him on the occasion of his election as president. “I also convey to you warm and strong hugs from General of the Army Raul Castro,” he added.
