MINSK, 25 April (BelTA) – Speaker of the Council of the Republic Mikhail Myasnikovich called on the Council of Europe to develop the Europe-Belarus dialogue in the interests of both sides as he met with Jean-Philippe Bozouls, Director of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe, BelTA learned from the press service of the upper house.
During the meeting, Mikhail Myasnikovich commented on the European Parliament resolution on Belarus of 19 April. “In my opinion, it is absolutely inconsistent with the objective assessment of the current situation in our country,” the speaker stated.
“Those who have voted on the resolution know nothing about the situation and use insulting expressions for our country. They have not studied the opinions on certain problems and have not invited anyone. This is why the resolution does not contribute to trust. Instead, it leads to a certain escalation,” he pointed out.
The speaker offered the counterparts to meet and discuss matters of interest more often. “I think, this will benefit both the united Europe and Belarus,” he added.
