MINSK, 22 June (BelTA) – With the opening of the renovated Dinamo Stadium Belarus is ready to host major sports events in athletics, President of the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) Sebastian Coe told the Belarus 1 TV channel on 21 June, BelTA has learned.
He noted that he is set to meet with Head of the Belarusian Athletics Federation Vadim Devyatovsky to discuss plans to arrange competitions in Belarus. “We have world championships for adult and junior athletes, for boys and girls, European championships and the Continental Cup. There are many possibilities. It is very important both for professional and aspiring athletes to take part in major sports events in the country. It will help promote this sport,” the IAAF President said.
It is gratifying when a competition is hosted by a country with a long history in athletics. “Belarus has such a history,” he added.
Speaking about the renovated Dinamo Stadium, Sebastian Coe noted that this facility should become a Minsk landmark. In his words, Belarusian athletics has gone a long way and has reached a high level by now.
