MINSK, 23 October (BelTA) – Belarus will open new prospects with the help of the Sustainable Development Goals, Assistant Administrator and Director of the UNDP Regional Bureau for Europe and CIS Cihan Sultanoglu told media on 23 October, BelTA informs.
“Through joint efforts the United Nations and Belarus will be able to use the Sustainable Development Goals for opening new opportunities for partnership with Belarus, securing environmental protection, using renewable energy resources, ensuring proper national administration for the benefit of every citizen,” said Cihan Sultanoglu.
In her words, Belarus is classified as a middle-income country. It possesses considerable experience and knowledge. “Implementing the Sustainable Development Goals we welcome the countries such as Belarus that share information, their best practices and experience with other partners,” the UN representative said.
The United Nations Development Assistance Framework (UNDAF) for the Republic of Belarus for 2016-2020 was signed in Minsk on 23 October. According to Cihan Sultanoglu, it is an important step for Belarus. The program is the second document defining a joint strategy for the organizations of the UN system in Belarus. The document focuses on the four most important areas: sustainable economic development; inclusive, responsive and accountable governance; environmental protection and sustainable environmental management based on the principles of green economy; sustainable development of human capital: health, education, social inclusion and protection.
