Chunli: China, Belarus can cooperate in many areas of science

MINSK, 4 June (BelTA) – China and Belarus can cooperate in many areas of science, President of the Chinese Academy of Sciences Bai Chunli said in an interview with the Belarus 1 TV channel, BelTA has learned.

The delegation of the Chinese Academy of Sciences visited Belarus on 22-26 May. It was the first visit of the head of China's largest scientific organization to the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus (NASB).

“We have visited several Belarusian research centers. We have been to the institutes of chemistry of new materials, energy and nuclear research, heat and mass transfer, the Stepanov Institute of Physics. It was particularly interesting for us to get familiar with the work of your scientists in the field of natural sciences. In general, I have made this conclusion: our academies can cooperate in many areas. These can be research in chemistry, development of new materials and even space exploration,” Bai Chunli said.

In his view, China-Belarus Industrial Park Great Stone has serious scientific potential. “Innovative manufactures always mean latest technologies. They need to be developed. This is what we do. It is quite logical that the industrial park will soon have its own research center. Young scientists from Belarus and China will be able to implement their ideas there,” Bai Chunli said.

Belarus plays an important role in the implementation of the Belt and Road initiative, Bai Chunli said. “If we talk about scientists’ contribution, we are ready to develop a full-fledged China-Belarus scientific hub here to promote the Silk Road Economic Belt project,” he added.

The Chinese Academy of Sciences is the supreme research institution of the People’s Republic of China, the leading center for fundamental research in the area of natural sciences in the country. Nearly 70,000 people participate in research efforts in the academy these days. The Chinese Academy of Sciences comprises 104 research institutes, 12 industry-specific academies, and three universities.
