BREST, 22 February (BelTA) - There has been significant progress in the relations between Belarus and Poland, Charge d’Affaires of Poland in Belarus Michal Chabros said as he met with Deputy Chairman of the Brest Oblast Executive Committee Mikhail Serkov, BelTA has learned.
”The relations between Belarus and Poland are gaining momentum. The recent decisions to lift of sanctions are the best evidence. The Minister for Foreign Affairs of Poland is planning a visit to Belarus, the first in many years. A regular meeting of the intergovernmental commission on economic cooperation has been scheduled. We need to thoroughly prepare for such iconic events,” said Michal Chabros.
The meeting in Brest discussed cross-border cooperation between regions of Belarus and Poland. The diplomat noted that the infrastructure on the border between the two countries is constantly upgraded. A good example is the international road border crossing point Polovtsy-Peschatka which has recently been modernized. Michal Chabros is sure that the throughput of other border crossing points such as Terespol-Brest and Slovatichi-Domachevo can also be increased.
“Poland is one of the most important trading and economic partners of Brest Oblast. We should continue to strengthen the cooperation. Businessmen show a mutual interest. As the priority for cooperation we see joint activities in the processing industry, development of the roadside service industry and also transport and logistics centers,” Mikhail Serkov noted.
The Vice Governor invited Poland to participate in the Forum of Business Contacts Brest 2016 which will be held on 21-22 April. In turn, Michal Chabros expressed hope that businessmen will also take an active part in the Polish-Belarusian Economic Forum Neighborhood due in June.
