Chabros: Poland, Belarus keen on stepping up cooperation in agrarian sector

MOGILEV, 4 November (BelTA) – Poland and Belarus are interested in intensifying cooperation in the agrarian and food sectors, Charge d’Affaires of Poland in Belarus Michal Chabros said at a press-conference held on 4 November to discuss the organization of the Polish-Belarusian regional economic forum scheduled for 12 November, BelTA informs.

“The theme and the focus of the forthcoming forum, Trade, Processing, Investments, have been chosen with a view to intensifying cooperation in the agrarian and food sectors. This was decided at the preliminary meeting with representatives of the Mogilev Oblast Executive Committee in June 2015. Here we have a huge potential for the implementation of joint projects with the aim to selling the products both in Belarus and the countries of the Eurasian Economic Union,” Michal Charbos said.

In his words, the Polish delegation will comprise representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development of Poland, the administration of the Kujawsko-Pomorskie Voivodeship, the Lublin Business Club and over 20 Polish companies representing the agrarian and food sectors.

In turn, Deputy Chairman of the Economy Committee of the Mogilev Oblast Executive Committee Yevgeny Yakimov noted that the main goal of the planned events was to demonstrate chances and prospects for developing joint Polish-Belarusian projects in the agrarian sector. Polish businessmen will get familiar with the economic potential of Mogilev Oblast, leading industrial and agricultural companies of the region. “We have prepared for Polish businessmen a number of proposals on the implementation of investment projects in manufacturing and processing of agricultural products. First of all, we intend to orient them on investing in the development of the south-eastern part of the oblast. For example, one of the proposals pertains to the joint construction of a big pig-breeding farm in Klimovichi District,” he said.

The investment portfolio of Mogilev Oblast includes about 400 projects and proposals that are to be considered at the economic forum.

In January-August 2015 the trade between Poland and Belarus totaled €1.3 billion. Poland is Mogilev Oblast’s sixth biggest export market among its trading partners and third among the non-CIS countries.
