Call on Belarus, Kyrgyzstan to strengthen, expand cooperation

MINSK, 18 January (BelTA) - Belarus and Kyrgyzstan need to expand and strengthen cooperation in all the areas, Chairman of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus Vladimir Andreichenko said as he met with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Kyrgyzstan to Belarus Ermek Ibraimov in Minsk on 18 January, BelTA has learned.

“We need to expand and strengthen cooperation on all fronts, and inter-parliamentary cooperation in the first place,” said Vladimir Andreichenko. “We have a lot to talk about, to discuss issues of constitutional law. You know that a law on the Belarusian People's Congress is in works in the Republic of Belarus. Next week, on 25 January we are set to pass the bill in the second reading. You have a people's assembly, too, which was introduced by referendum. I know that a meeting has already taken place, and a decision has been made to draft the corresponding law. We have something to discuss in this area as well. In fact, we have many issues to discuss.”

The parties are set to discuss the state and prospects of the Belarus-Kyrgyzstan inter-parliamentary cooperation including the scheduled official visit of the Speaker of the Parliament of Kyrgyzstan to Belarus in 2023 and other urgent issues of cooperation in trade, economic and humanitarian sectors.

“I think that the visit of the chairperson of your parliament to the Republic of Belarus will be a landmark event. And, of course, this visit will show the desire to expand our cooperation. We should think over a good program. I believe we should sign an agreement on inter-parliamentary cooperation. A draft has already been prepared. We need to revisit this issue, finalize the document so that we could sign it during the upcoming visit,” the speaker said.

Vladimir Andreichenko added that the ambassador is well aware of Belarus' possibilities. “You have already been working here, in Belarus, since 2019,” he emphasized. “You know our technological and personnel potential. You know what we can do in agriculture, industry, and also what concerns the supply of agricultural, municipal, and road equipment. We know the capabilities of Kyrgyzstan. We are interested in buying what is produced in your country and what Belarus needs.”

“Today we are on the right way to strengthen and expand our cooperation. We just need to put more effort into this issue. At least, Belarus is interested in it,” the speaker added.
