Call for more efforts to attract new residents to Great Stone Park

MINSK, 25 February (BelTA) – Head of the Belarus President Administration Alexander Kosinets believes that more efforts should be made to attract new residents to the China-Belarus Industrial Park Great Stone. He made a relevant statement during a meeting of the Minsk Oblast Executive Committee on 25 February. The meeting discussed matters of the social and economic development of the region in 2015 and for the next five years, BelTA has learned.

Alexander Kosinets believes that the China-Belarus Industrial Park makes Minsk Oblast the leader among Belarus’ regions in terms of investment attraction. “We need to develop a different approach to investments. Only a couple of residents have shown a desire to get registered, and that is all. The Minsk Oblast Executive Committee should be engaged in addressing the issue,” Alexander Kosinets stressed.

As for the development of the social infrastructure of the China-Belarus Industrial Park, the head of the Belarus President Administration also believes that the process should be speeded up. In his words, today a lot of attention is paid to the construction of utility networks. “According to our plans, around the park there will be a city with a population of 80,000, and this city needs to be built. We need to build not only housing, but also social infrastructure. The architecture and construction minister and the deputy chairman of the Minsk Oblast Executive Committee responsible for the construction sector should join their efforts and draw up a strategy for this city. They should decide what neighborhoods there will be, and choose the construction sites for halls of residence, hotels, schools, nurseries, shops, and pharmacies,” Alexander Kosinets pointed out.

“We should come up with ideas without waiting for our Chinese partners to do it themselves. This is a very important investment program for Minsk Oblast that may bring considerable profits, plus there will be a logistics center,” the head of the Belarus President Administration noted.

Alexander Kosinets also emphasized the importance of the development of the core of the China-Belarus Industrial Park which includes telecommunication technology, nanotechnology, biotechnology, radioelectronics, and other components. “You should clearly understand that other facilities can be built there, such as plants to produce electric cables or optical fiber. It is necessary to propose such ideas to the Chinese partners. You should also estimate how much investments can be attracted, and designate officials responsible for these tasks,” Alexander Kosinets stressed.

For his part, Chairman of the Minsk Oblast Executive Committee Semyon Shapiro noted that the instructions and recommendations will be systematized. Decisions will be made on how to implement each of them.
