MINSK, 11 November (BelTA) - The adoption of a resolution on Belarus by the German Bundestag is blatant interference in the internal affairs of our country, reads the statement by Chairperson of the Council of the Republic Natalya Kochanova and Chairman of the House of Representatives Vladimir Andreichenko in connection with the resolution on the situation in Belarus adopted by the Bundestag on 4 November, BelTA has learned.
“We see the adoption of the resolution on Belarus by the Bundestag of the Federal Republic of Germany as blatant interference in the internal affairs of our country. The results of the presidential election in Belarus do not require the approval of the foreign parliament. Neither do the legitimate actions of the Belarusian authorities to ensure public order and security in the country. By its resolution, the Bundestag undercuts the progress made in Belarusian-German relations, panders to the self-serving interests of individual politicians, who are trying to earn political capital on the image of being ‘fighters for democracy in Belarus’, while not paying attention to the harsh repressive actions of law enforcement agencies in their own country,” the document said.
“We are utterly bewildered by the support that German MPs provide to the extremist telegram-channels openly calling for terrorist activities in Belarus, which, as is known, suffered the worst from terror during the Second World War. In respect to Belarus, the Bundestag members need to preserve their historical memory and exercise restraint in their attempts to lecture. We hope that our German partners will have the political wisdom and sanity to objectively assess the situation in Belarus and continue to build cooperation on the basis of mutual respect, constructive dialogue and consideration of the interests of the parties," the speakers of the Belarusian parliament said in their statement.
