MINSK, 31 March (BelTA) – Europe appreciates Belarus’ efforts to resolve the Ukrainian crisis. The opinion was voiced by Carl Bildt, Director of the Center for European Reform, on 31 March. In the past Carl Bildt worked as the prime minister and the minister of foreign affairs of Sweden, BelTA has learned.
“We appreciate Belarus’ efforts aimed at supporting Ukraine’s territorial integrity. It happened the same way with regard to Georgia if we recall 2008. These efforts to find a solution to the crisis are based on respect for Ukraine’s territorial integrity,” said Carl Bildt.
Asked about future development of relations between Belarus and the European Union, he noted: “The reason we have come here is our desire to more clearly see Belarus’ policy in the current difficult situation in Europe. What does Belarus think about it? Where is the country going to go in conditions of integration? What the Eurasian Economic Union truly stands for? What is the potential for cooperation with the European Union?”
Carl Bildt took part in the meeting of the delegation of the European Council on Foreign Relations (ECFR) with Belarusian MPs on 31 March. The delegation included reporters, experts and representatives of government agencies from the UK, Belgium, Bulgaria, Estonia, France, Sweden, Norway, and Slovakia.
