Belarusian PM shares his expectations of new members of Parliament

MINSK, 23 February (BelTA) – Belarusian Prime Minister Roman Golovchenko cast his ballot at polling station No. 516 in Tsentralny District of Minsk during early voting of the parliamentary and local elections, BelTA has learned.

The head of government talked to journalists and shared his expectations of the new members of parliament. "I look forward to active and professional work. With the adoption of the updated Constitution, the role of the Parliament in lawmaking and regulation has increased substantially. The government submits several bills to the Parliament on a weekly basis, new amendments to the laws, and we really need all kinds of expertise. The bills that we submit make an impact on various sectors and walks of life of our society. It is very important that they are verified, so that we do not make mistakes, do not miss nuances. MPs help a lot in this. Especially when bills pass the relevant commissions," Roman Golovchenko said.

According to him, MPs represent different regions of the country. “This helps to take into account many things in the preparation of certain laws, regulations, so that they are balanced and meet the interests of all segments of society and regions. This is very important,” the prime minister said.

“Legislative work is one of the MPs’ activities. It is equally important to provide feedback to the voters and help them solve emerging issues. There are different channels through which people's problems are brought to the authorities. This is done including through MPs. In addition to professionalism, it is important to work thoughtfully on bills and to address the issues that arise. MPs have enough powers and opportunities. It is all about persistence and determination. The government expects to work with the new elected members of our parliament in such a tandem,” Roman Golovchenko said.
