MINSK, 10 August (BelTA) – Belarusian athletes need to fully concentrate on their performance in Rio and perform to the top of their abilities to produce the maximum result at the 2016 Olympics. The matter was discussed at a working meeting of the Belarusian delegation in Rio de Janeiro on 10 August, BelTA learnt from the website of the National Olympic Committee (NOC) of Belarus.
Following five competition days at the Olympic Games, First Vice President of the NOC Maksim Ryzhenkov and Sport and Tourism Minister Alexander Shamko gave critical assessment of the current performance of the Belarusian athletes, pointing out some positive moments. Each of the athletes was set forth concrete goals to achieve at the ongoing Games.
The participants of the meeting also wished happy birthday to cyclist Konstantin Sivtsov as he turned 34. On 10 August the athlete will make his appearance in the Men’s Time Trial event.
Belarus has not yet had a chance to get on the Rio medal table. 40-year-old table tennis player Vladimir Samsonov is currently standing the closest to the podium, after reaching the semifinal on 9 August.
A prayer service for the Belarusian Olympians was organized at the headquarters of the Belarusian delegation with the assistance of the Belarusian Embassy in Brazil.
