VIENNA, 14 September (BelTA) – Belarus is successfully implementing the project to build the nuclear power plant. The statement was made by Anne Starz, senior advisor for policy and strategy of the IAEA Nuclear Energy Department, during the opening of the Belarusian nuclear power plant exposition in Vienna on 14 September, BelTA has learned.
The IAEA representative mentioned the great progress Belarus has secured in the last few years to create the national nuclear energy infrastructure. She noted that the launch of the Belarusian nuclear program coincided with the IAEA’s publication of the Milestones in the Development of a National Infrastructure for Nuclear Power. The Milestones document contains recommendations in 19 areas. “Today we witness a historic moment when the first country to use the document is already building two reactors and intends to commission a nuclear power plant within the next few years,” she noted.
According to Anne Starz, the Belarusian side fulfills all the IAEA recommendations. “I can assure you that the Nuclear Energy Department and the IAEA will continue offering support in this sphere,” said the IAEA representative.
