MINSK, 9 November (BelTA) – The Belarusian Language Day should be a landmark event in 2017, Deputy Prime Minister of Belarus Natalya Kochanova said at the session of the national organizing committee of the Belarusian Language Day in Polotsk, BelTA has learned.

According to Natalya Kochanova, the 2017 Belarusian Language Day will be a special event because next year Belarus will mark the 500th anniversary of book printing in Belarus and the 1155th anniversary of Polotsk. “These two events should be highlighted in the Belarusian Language Day concept,” she said.

The session of the organizing committee held in Minsk on 9 November will determine the main tasks for the agencies in charge of the preparations for this large-scale event which is expected to open on Saturday, 3 September. “It is not good when we open the festival on Sunday morning and close it in the evening the same day. This festival should last for a longer period of time,” Natalya Kochanova believes.
