MINSK, 5 November (BelTA) – First Deputy Prime Minister of Belarus Alexander Turchin met with World Bank Country Director for Belarus, Moldova, and Ukraine Satu Kahkonen on 5 November, BelTA has learned.
Alexander Turchin informed Satu Kahkonen that last week the Belarusian parliament passed the government’s new action program for 2018-2020. He said he believes the goals set by the Belarusian government fully correlate with recommendations made by international finance organizations, including the World Bank. “The new action program preserves commitment to implementing systematic changes. We are confident that measured steps will help bolster market institutions and private property ones,” said Alexander Turchin.
In his words, the Belarusian government counts on tight cooperation with the World Bank in a broad range of matters such as continued consulting support in implementing certain structural changes in Belarus and the implementation of investment projects to build and modernize social and economic infrastructure facilities.
Alexander Turchin noted that cooperation with the World Bank remains at quite a good level and the government remains committed to advancing it in the areas where the bank commands undeniable advantages.
In turn, Satu Kahkonen said the bank intends to continue tight cooperation with the Belarusian government.
First Deputy Prime Minister of Belarus Alexander Turchin also met with representatives of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development. The sides discussed topical aspects of Belarus’ cooperation with the EBRD in various spheres of economy.
