MINSK, 19 May (BelTA) – Belarusian pilots were the first ones in the world to land a Su-25 attack aircraft on a motorway at night, BelTA learned from Belarusian Defense Minister Andrei Ravkov.
The official said: “I believe we are the first ones in the ex-USSR and maybe in the entire world to land a Su-25 attack aircraft in an airfield section of the motorway at night.”
According to the Defense Minister, the pilots confidently carry out training and combat missions while the equipment demonstrates good capabilities.
Andrei Ravkov spoke in glowing terms about the performance of the pilots and remarked: “The development of the air force, the circumstances of the air force’s application force pilots to take risks and accomplish most complicated things.”
Two Yak-130 combat and training aircraft, two MiG-29 fighter jets, and a Su-25 attack aircraft landed on a motorway in Cherven District late at night on 18 May. The exercise was part of the tactical flight training that the 61st Fighter Airbase is supposed to carry out on 17-19 May.
