MINSK, 23 February (BelTA) – The Armed Forces reliably protect the security of the state. Prime Minister of Belarus Roman Golovchenko made the statement as he opened a shooting competition, which gathered top officers of security, defense, and law enforcement agencies of Belarus on occasion of Fatherland Defenders Day, BelTA has learned.
Roman Golovchenko said: “Today is Fatherland Defenders Day. This holiday is close and understandable for us, it is sacred for every one of us. We’ve inherited this holiday from the Soviet times and have incorporated it into our state ideology. We did it for a reason. In the last few years the Belarusian society definitely felt that the Armed Forces, other troops and military units, paramilitary organizations represent the backbone the state can rely on in difficult times. The military organization of the state will reliably protect its security.”
The prime minister went on saying: “As he was congratulating veterans, all the security, defense, and law enforcement agencies yesterday, the Belarus president said that serious measures are being taken to prepare our Armed Forces to operate in any conditions. It is truly so. Last year saw the largest and most financially intensive decisions made to reequip our Armed Forces. In the next few years our army and other security, defense, and law enforcement agencies will get a considerable amount of weapons and military hardware. We’ve never had such a large program but the time requires us to do it in addition to what our defense industry makes and supplies.”
The shooting competition took place in the shooting sport complex named after Marshal of the Soviet Union Semyon Timoshenko. “It is symbolical that we’ve gathered here today in a place of significance for Belarusian shooting sport, which has gifted our country with many champions and prizewinners. I am convinced that all participants of the competition will demonstrate the worthiest results today. I wish everyone sport accomplishments and victories and wish our Belarus peace and prosperity,” Roman Golovchenko concluded.
