Belarusian ambassador encourages young people to go to museums, theaters

MINSK, 22 November (BelTA) – Rap battles and other facets of subcultures should be used to encourage young people to go to theaters and museums as a fashionable pastime. The statement was made by Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to Russia Igor Petrishenko during the expert and media forum held in Moscow on 22 November to discuss humanitarian partnership in the Union State of Belarus and Russia, BelTA has learned.

According to the ambassador, these days young people are neck deep in the Internet and social networks. The time has given birth to new hobbies and generates new subcultures. Things like rap battles gather crowds of many millions because popular subcultures resort to the most accessible instruments in order to direct attention to themselves.

Igor Petrishenko said: “It is necessary to make going to theaters or museums fashionable among young people however paradoxical it may sound. It should be done in a way young people can understand, in their own space, including social networks.”

The ambassador stressed that Belarus and Russia have many remarkable accomplishments and reasons for pride in the humanitarian sphere. However, the diplomat stressed it is necessary to get the entire society passionate about them while focusing on young people.

The forum A New Vector of Humanitarian Partnership in the Union State is scheduled to take place in Moscow on 22-23 November. Taking part in the forum are representatives of humanitarian spheres of Belarus and Russia. Participants of the forum are expected to discuss problems of museums, libraries, book publishing, and education. The forum was organized by the Standing Committee of the Union State of Belarus and Russia and the international news agency Russia Today.
