MINSK, 7 May (BelTA) - Belarus responds to all attempts of intimidation with a consistent peacekeeping position and a policy of strategic deterrence, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko said at a solemn meeting on the occasion of Victory Day in Minsk on 7 May, BelTA has learned.
"Belarus responds to all attempts of intimidation with a consistent peacekeeping position and a policy of strategic deterrence. We have taken into account the mistakes of the beginning of the Great Patriotic War and will not fall for promises, provocations and attempts to obfuscate a direct military threat. Like Soviet soldiers back in 1945, we, together with our ally, are defending not only the territorial borders but also the borders of our common historical memory" Aleksandr Lukashenko said.
The head of state recalled that the 7th Belarusian People's Congress adopted two fundamental documents: the National Security Concept and the Military Doctrine. They define specific strategic measures that will ensure reliable protection of the constitutional order of Belarus, sovereignty and peaceful life of the people. "Those who want to understand our plans and our position today need to read these documents. We did not hide them, we published them," the president said.
"I repeat once again: we are an absolutely peaceful country and do not consider any state as an enemy. But if necessary, the Belarusian people will raise up to defend their native land, using all possible forces and means," Aleksandr Lukashenko stressed. “The main guarantor of the country's military security is our Armed Forces. Therefore, we keep them in constant combat readiness and equip them with the most advanced weapons."
According to him, thanks to professional training, patriotism, loyalty to military duty and the Fatherland, the Belarusian army is able to ensure the security of our state and, if necessary, inflict irreparable and unacceptable damage on the enemy.
The head of state also noted that not only military force is important today: "No modern weapons will be able to break the people if they stand together. Our adversaries are well aware of this and are doing everything to pull us apart and divide us."
