MINSK, 28 September (BelTA) – United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grandi praised Belarus’ welcoming reception of Ukrainian refugees and displaced persons as he met with Belarus’ Permanent Representative to the UN Office and other international organizations in Geneva Yuri Ambrazevich on 27 September, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The parties discussed a rage of issues related to the cooperation between Belarus and UNHCR. They noted that the bilateral cooperation is constructive and fruitful. Many projects have been implemented to enhance the national capacities and improve Belarusian legislation in the field of forced migration.
Filippo Grandi praised Belarus’ effort to accommodate refugees and displaced persons from Ukraine. He stressed that UNHCR welcomes the actions taken by the Belarusian authorities to tackle this situation.
Yuri Ambrazevich and Filippo Grandi also discussed the results of the recent UN Summit for Refugees and Migrants in New York. Attending the summit was Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei.
