Belarus-Vietnam relations hailed as vibrant

Belarus-Vietnam relations hailed as vibrant

MINSK, 9 November (BelTA) - The relations between Belarus and Vietnam have been steadily developing, Chairman of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus Vladimir Andreichenko said as he met with outgoing Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Vietnam to Belarus Pham Hai on 9 November, BelTA has learned.

“I would like to thank you for all the attention you have paid to the development of Belarusian-Vietnamese relations. We really appreciate it. Today we do not have any problematic issues in relations with Vietnam. Our cooperation has been developing steadily over the past 30 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations. We appreciate your contribution to this process. In December 2019, you helped organize the visit of the chairman of the Vietnamese Parliament to Belarus. Meetings at the highest and supreme levels were held then. It is noteworthy that the current chairman of Parliament, who was recently elected, was also present in that delegation at that time. Therefore, I would like to take this opportunity to extend my best wishes to him and we are always ready to receive him in Belarus at any time convenient for him,” Vladimir Andreichenko said.

According to the speaker, Belarus is interested in further positive development of cooperation between the parliaments of the two countries. “You know that a friendship group has been set up in the Belarusian parliament. We hope that such a friendship group will also be set up in the Vietnamese parliament in the near future. We suggest that after the creation of such a group we hold an online meeting to determine the areas of our cooperation both on a bilateral basis and within international organizations. We have always cooperated very closely with the leaders of your parliament on international platforms. I think this tradition should be continued for us to be able to closely cooperate in the Inter-Parliamentary Union, because we basically have the same views on major international issues. I believe we need to build up our interaction in the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly, where Belarus has an observer status. We got this status then including thanks to the support of the Vietnamese Parliament,” said Vladimir Andreichenko.

Vladimir Andreichenko stressed that the countries need to further develop trade and economic cooperation. “The trade of $180 million in 2020 is a strong achievement. It is good that this year we have a 15-16% increase in trade in January-August 2021 compared to last year. We have a lot of areas of work. This is the supply of potassium chloride - we can build up and almost completely meet Vietnam’s needs in potassium chloride. A truck assembly plant has been set up near Hanoi, but it has not yet reached its design capacity. Belarus has designed a modern tractor to work in the rice fields. We are also interested in supplies of this equipment to the Vietnamese market. I am not even talking about tourism, supplies of fish, seafood, coffee, tea, nuts, tropical fruits from Vietnam to our country. The list is long. Once again, I would like to thank you for all the work you have done over these three years. You have created a very good foundation for your successor, so the MPs should continue this good tradition,” Vladimir Andreichenko said.

“I am really sorry to leave Belarus. I have been to many countries, but nowhere have I experienced such feelings. Let me express my gratitude to the leadership and people of Belarus for Vietnam's humanitarian assistance in the fight against COVID-19. For us it is a gesture of sincere friendship,” said the ambassador.
