Belarus’ unique economic transformation over roughly 30 years pointed out

MINSK, 17 October (BelTA) – Over the course of slightly less than 30 years Belarus has completed unique economic transformation. Deputy Head of the Belarus President Administration Nikolai Snopkov made the relevant statement during the opening part of the 20th international scientific conference on forecasting and state regulation of social and economic development on 17 October, BelTA has learned.

Nikolai Snopkov remarked: “Over the course of slightly less than 30 years our country has experienced genuinely unique economic transformation. Scientists of independent Belarus have always provided strong and timely support along the way.”

In his words, Belarusians have come to dislike the years of unbalanced development so much that the feeling has become a phobia. Keeping the things balanced is a bird in the hand and has been the key goal for the last four years. “I am deeply convinced that this philosophy does not meet either expectations of the society or the goals set by the head of state,” the official said.

This is why participants of the conference face new goals today, on the 20th anniversary of the conference, in anticipation of the work on the national strategy of sustainable development for the period till 2035. “You should come up with genuine recipes for reforms that would harmoniously intertwine with the mentality of the Belarusian society, its readiness to embrace change, and would match national priorities and principles,” Nikolai Snopkov said. In his words, ideas of enhancing, developing, and creating new institutions represent the ultimate value as well as ideas of enhancing mutual responsibility and trust between the public sector, the corporate sector, and individuals.

Speaking about the forum, the official noted it had generated its own traditions over the course of two decades. One of them is focusing on matters of current interest and working out concrete measures to resolve them. “In my opinion, such an approach sets the conference apart from similar events, which often generate fashionable generalities while disregarding the context of internal and external circumstances,” Nikolai Snopkov concluded.

The 20th international scientific conference on forecasting and state regulation of social and economic development is scheduled to take place in Minsk on 17-18 October. Over 400 applications for participation in the anniversary forum have been submitted from Belarus, Russia, Kazakhstan, Poland, Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan, Ukraine, and other countries. The plenary session is taking place today. Prominent Belarusian and foreign economists, heads of government agencies, representatives of the private sector and international organizations are taking part in it. Roundtable sessions are scheduled for 18 October. One of them will be dedicated to the potential and promising avenues of development of the closed-cycle economy in Belarus. Another one will focus on priorities of social and economic development of Belarusian regions in view of the development of the new transboundary cooperation program Poland-Belarus-Ukraine for the 2021-2017 period. Apart from that, six panel sessions will be arranged as well.
