MINSK, 5 April (BelTA) – Belarus should use the current window of opportunity in order to advance the dialogue with the European Union. The statement was made by Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei after the government conference held by the Belarus president on 5 April to discuss Belarusian-European relations, BelTA has learned.
“It is necessary to use the current window of opportunity to build a full-value respectful and comprehensive dialogue between Belarus and the European Union. I am convinced that the effort will generate dividends in the near future,” said Vladimir Makei.
In his words, Alexander Lukashenko gave instructions to primarily develop trade, economic, and investment cooperation with the European Union and other Western partners. “It is the most important thing for us. Particularly now when the economic and financial situation in the world is difficult,” noted the Minister of Foreign Affairs.
Apart from that, the government conference touched upon the development of relations with European and international financial institutions.
Vladimir Makei went on saying that the head of state had given instructions to ensure smooth interaction within the framework of the Belarus-EU coordinating group. The group’s session is expected to take place in Brussels soon. “We intend to discuss all avenues of our cooperation with the European Union then, starting with power engineering and environmental matters and ending with human rights,” said the official.
