MINSK, 5 October (BelTA) – Belarus is interested in strengthening inter-parliamentary cooperation with Germany, Chairman of the Council of the Republic Mikhail Myasnikovich said as he met with the delegation of the German-Belarusian parliamentary group of the Bundestag led by Chairman of the group Oliver Kaczmarek on 5 October, BelTA has learned.
“I think our meeting will open a new phase in the inter-parliamentary cooperation between the countries. We hope for positive development of partnership in all the key areas,” Mikhail Myasnikovich stressed.
In his words, the two countries have a potential for expanding inter-parliamentary ties. Belarus is interested in their further development and is ready to discuss the issues of inter-parliamentary cooperation. “As I see it, we have big potential and we can implement a lot of interesting projects,” the Speaker of the Council of the Republic added.
In September 2016 Belarus held its parliamentary elections. The new parliament will start working in the near future. “I am confident that in its first sessions the new parliament will form a group of friendship with the German parliament,” Mikhail Myasnikovich noted.
The Speaker of the Council of the Republic also expressed gratitude to Germany for its support of the EU Council’s decision to cancel sanctions against Belarus. “It was a long pending step,” Mikhail Myasnikovich said.
