MINSK, 26 August (BelTA) – Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko gave an interview to the TV channel Belarus One on 26 August after meeting with President of Russia Vladimir Putin in Sochi on 22 August, BelTA has learned.
The Belarusian head of state made a few comments about periodic mass media reports on his so-called fears. “I’ve read various speculations concerning fears and terrors for Lukashenko in the future and so on. First, I don’t fear anything now. I am a man, who has lived through many fears. But there is one fear – if you can call it that – the fear of economy. I always talk about it. If our economy grows well, then our people will live more or less well, at least like they do no, there can be no fears for Belarusians. No fears like that exist. No fears along the lines of external aggression, an attempt to enslave us, conquer, dissolve us… There is no more fear anymore except for economy,” said the Belarusian leader.
Alexander Lukashenko also mentioned that negotiations with his Russian counterpart had touched upon international relations, including the state of American-Russian relations. “This context is relevant for us, too. Because among other things Belarus’ development depends on Russia’s relations with the rest of the world, with the West, and particularly, with the United States of America. There is nothing to boast about in this regard. All of us understand it. And how economy will develop is very important for us,” said the president.
