MINSK, 22 October (BelTA) - Belarus will hold the Second European Games 2019 at the highest level, Belarus’ Prime Minister Andrei Kobyakov said as he spoke at a ceremony marking the 25th anniversary of the National Olympic Committee of Belarus, BelTA has learned.
The Belarusian head of government thanked the delegates of the 45th EOC General Assembly for giving Belarus the right to host the major sports event in 2019. “The EOC General Assembly in Minsk is an important event in the sport and social life of the country. You took the historic decision to award Belarus the right to host the Second European Games. The European Games in 2019 will be particularly important for athletes as the Games will be held one year prior to the Summer Olympic Games in Tokyo and will be an opportunity to win Olympic licenses. On behalf of the Belarusian Government I would like to assure the European Olympic Committees that we will make every effort to host the Second European Games at the highest level,” Andrei Kobyakov noted.
Belarus was elected to host the 2019 European Games at the 45th EOC General Assembly. Belarus will host such a large sport event featuring more than a dozen sports for the first time in its history. Belarus won 43 medals at the First European Games in Baku which brought together more than 6,000 athletes.
