MINSK, 21 August (BelTA) – Chairwoman of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly Natalya Kochanova and Chairman of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus Vladimir Andreichenko have sent addresses to speakers of the national parliaments of the European Union, BelTA learned from the website of the Council of the Republic.
The address notes that Belarus held the presidential election on 9 August. As a result, Aleksandr Lukashenko was re-elected Belarusian president. The election was held in line with the Belarusian Constitution and legislation. The majority of citizens supported the current policy aimed at building a strong independent state, the key priorities of which are people and their prosperity and safety.
Some Euro-Atlantic officials rushed to make political statements and conclusions important for Belarus, with some of them bordering on the interference with the country’s domestic affairs, which is unacceptable and contradicts the universally accepted principles and norms of the international law, the speakers of the Belarusian parliament stressed. “It is important to look into the current situation in Belarus in an objective and calm manner,” the address reads.
Natalya Kochanova and Vladimir Andreichenko called on their colleagues from the EU national parliaments to help shape an objective, professional, and responsible stance regarding the situation in Belarus.
