The education minister said: “We are open to the dialogue and are ready to discuss any matters that may be interesting for us and beneficial for both sides.” He noted that Belarus is interested in the experience of the European Union, of the European educational system and leading universities. “Productive interaction with European countries in education affairs will continue. It is very important for us to stay part of global processes while keeping our national identity,” stated Igor Karpenko.

Andrea Wiktorin said that she had been trained to be a teacher, this is why education affairs have always been important for her and she is interested in advancing relations with Belarus in education. “It is not the first time I’ve come to the Education Ministry. The previous time an agreement on financing a joint program on developing vocational training was signed here,” she explained.

The European diplomat noted that very good traditions had evolved in Belarus and the Belarusian vocational training system enjoys high reputation. “In addition to preserving the best accomplishments of the vocational training system of the past you have managed to reach new development levels. It will help develop the national economy,” she stated.

Andrea Wiktorin also remarked that she had been able to get familiar with the new Education Code on the ministry’s website. She approved of the idea of discussing the document with the general public.
