Belarus on lookout for ambitious ideas from young people

MINSK, 15 March (BelTA) – Belarus is on the lookout for initiatives and ambitious proposals from young people, Chairman of the Council of the Republic Mikhail Myasnikovich noted a ceremony to give passports to young Belarusian citizens on 15 March, BelTA has learned.

The speaker gave passports to 18 students – winners of Olympiads, art contests, festivals, and sports competitions. He called on them to be active, charismatic, and creative. Belarus expects them to come up with good initiatives and ambitious proposals, he underlined.

Government bodies and local authorities should always keep in touch with young people and stay up to date with their initiatives, the official believes. “Young people will feel involved in governance and solving tasks set for a region or the country in general. This is how the Belarusian nation’s unity is formed,” Mikhail Myasnikovich remarked.

He talked with the students and stressed that now their main task is to get high-quality education. This applies not only to universities but also to vocational and specialized secondary schools.

The campaign “We are Belarusian citizens” dedicated to the Constitution Day is taking place in regions across the country. Traditionally young people get passports from heads of legislative and executive bodies, public figures, and other prominent and reputable Belarusians.

The campaign was first launched in 2004 by the BRSM Youth Union. The young Belarusians who received their passports from Mikhail Myasnikovich have already made great academic progress and have achievements in sports and art, noted Andrei Belyakov, Deputy Chairman of the Council of the Republic’s permanent commission on education, science, culture, and social development, First Secretary of the BRSM Central Committee. In his words, participation in the campaign will encourage them to move forward.
