Belarus, Moldova looking for new opportunities to bolster ties

MINSK, 16 July (BelTA) - Belarus and Moldova are looking for the new ways to develop mutually beneficial cooperation, Deputy Chairman of the Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry Vladimir Ulakhovich said in the run-up to the Belarusian-Moldovan Business Forum, BelTA has learned.

"Belarus has special relations with Moldova. We have a common past: the economic mechanism which we have not lost, the human capital. And, of course, these are the achievements we made in the past decade at the interstate level. We have set up several enterprises which operate well. But we need to look for new opportunities,” said Vladimir Ulakhovich.

He noted that Moldova and Belarus are dealing with the same challenges which exist in the global market. To minimize losses, the two countries need to seek ways for mutually beneficial cooperation. "Today Moldova has an agreement with the European Union (on free trade zone – note by BelTA). This opens up opportunities to promote our joint products to the European market. At the same time, Belarus is part of the Eurasian Economic Union. Today we are discussing the terms of manufacturing joint products which will be certified as Belarusian-made, and the terms of product promotion to these markets," said Vladimir Ulakhovich.

Today Minsk is hosting the Belarusian-Moldovan Business Forum as Moldova President Nicolae Timofti is visiting Belarus. The program provides for the plenary meeting and bilateral negotiations between representatives of the two countries' business.
