MINSK, 4 April (BelTA) – The conflict in Nagorny Karabakh can be settled through peaceful means only, spokesman for the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Dmitry Mironchik told BelTA.
The OSCE Minsk Group mediating a peaceful settlement of the conflict in Nagorny Karabakh will meet in the Belarusian capital on 5 April. Commenting on Belarus’ position regarding the issue, Dmitry Mironchik said that on 2 April the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement in connection with the events in Nagorny Karabakh. Belarus calls on the parties to the conflict to refrain from the threat or use of force in international relations as stipulated in the UN Charter and other international legal instruments. “We continue to believe that the conflict in Nagorny Karabakh can be settled through peaceful means only and in accordance with the generally recognized principles and norms of international law,” Dmitry Mironchik said.
As for the media reports claiming that Belarus will provide military assistance to one of the parties, that is nothing but hearsay without foundation. “Belarus always stands ready to assist in the search for a peaceful settlement of the conflict at the negotiating table. There is no military solution to the conflict, and military assistance is out of the question,” Dmitry Mironchik pointed out.
