MINSK, 11 June (BelTA) - The U.S. decision to extend restrictive measures against Belarus does not reflect the actual situation in the relationship between Belarus and the United States, BelTA learned from Deputy Head of the Department of Information and Digital Diplomacy of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Andrei Shuplyak.
“This decision was initiated by the George W. Bush Administration in 2006. Since then Belarus-United States relations have changed significantly, but it is obvious that when it comes to certain matters unfortunately Washington still fails to review its outdated position towards Belarus. The notion that Belarus that has been doing its utmost to strengthen regional and international security could possibly pose any threat to other states sounds ever more absurd,” Andrei Shuplyak said.
“Moreover, we believe that the decision taken by the American side does not reflect the actual situation in the relationship between Belarus and the United States currently engaged in a dialogue discussing matters of mutual interest, as well as reciprocal concern,” Andrei Shuplyak stressed.
He added that Belarus is interested in continuing constructive engagement with the United States and counts on the United States to take results of this process into consideration while making decisions related to the bilateral relations.
