MINSK, 9 September (BelTA) – Belarus is among the bidders to host the European Athletics Championships in 2024, President of the European Athletics Association Svein Arne Hansen told the media after his meeting with Belarusian head of state Aleksandr Lukashenko on 9 September, BelTA has learned.
He said that Belarus is among the countries that are bidding to host the international competitions. Svein Arne Hansen said that at today’s meeting with Aleksandr Lukashenko they discussed issues related to the organization of several international competitions. He did not specify which ones and when they can take place in Belarus. “We will surely be back. Very interesting news is awaiting us,” the head of the association said.
“We are looking forward to the Match Europe v USA. Three and a half years ago we discussed with Aleksandr Lukashenko the idea of organizing a match of the kind, and he said “yes” immediately. And we are here today,” Svein Arne Hansen said.
He also spoke about his impressions about Belarus: “As for sports, I try to be the Belarusian ambassador. This is truly a fantastic country, a wonderful city. Unfortunately, little is known about it worldwide. Sport is a great opportunity to provide people with more information about your country.”
