Belarus-Korea cooperation in high technology viewed as effective

MINSK, 4 October (BelTA) - Belarus and the Republic of Korea have established effective cooperation in high technology, Belarus Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Andrei Dapkiunas said as he addressed an event on the occasion of the Korean national holiday – the National Foundation Day on 4 October, BelTA has learned.

The Republic of Korea is one of the main partners of Belarus in the Asian region, the deputy minister stressed. “For more than a quarter of a century of diplomatic relations, we have come a long way in building harmonious relations. We have been able to build effective cooperation in many fields, especially in high technology. Korean tech giant SK Hynix opened a Belarus office a few years ago. Last month this company set up a large research center in Minsk,” Andrei Dapkiunas said. According to him, the fifth meeting of the joint committee of Belarus and the Republic of Korea in Seoul was an important step towards expanding mutually beneficial cooperation.

“For almost two decades we have been actively developing scientific cooperation with Korea and we are grateful for the invaluable experience of Belarusian scientists obtained during the cooperation with the Korea International Cooperation Agency and other organizations. The Korean culture does not leave us indifferent: every year the Days of Korean Culture draw an increasing number of participants and visitors, and the event is becoming larger. At the same time, we see great potential for mutually beneficial relationship both in the field of economy and also in humanitarian affairs, education and science. We are ready to continue to expand such contacts together with our Korean friends,” Andrei Dapkiunas noted.

Andrei Dapkiunas stated that Belarus welcomes the successes of the Korean people towards resumption of peace and understanding on the Korean peninsula. “Belarusians together with the world closely followed the successful negotiations between the leaders of the Republic of Korea and the DPRK welcoming their agreements, which, as we believe, will finally bring long-awaited peace to the Korean peninsula,” he noted.

“On this festive day, four and a half millennia after the founding of the first Republic of Korea Gojoseon, I am pleased to note that the Korean people have made great achievements which enabled the country to take leading positions in the global economy and policy. Being one of the global engines of progress in science and technology, the Republic of Korea has been able to preserve and multiply its cultural component having gained fame not only thanks to the brands of major corporations but also thanks to the beauty of Korean music and dance, the uniqueness of Korean cuisine,” Andrei Dapkiunas said.
