MINSK, 5 November (BelTA) - Belarus is increasing its presence on the Chinese market, Belarus’ Deputy Economy Minister Anzhelika Nikitina said at a ceremony to open the national exhibition at China International Import Expo, BelTA has learned.
“Belarus and China are reliable allies and strategic partners. There are numerous opportunities to implement new successful and mutually beneficial initiatives. In 2019, our trade exceeded $5 billion. Despite the pandemic, our trade this year corresponds to the level of the same period of last year, and foreign trade in services might even increase last year’s levels by 21%,” Anzhelika Nikitina noted. In the light of external challenges, economic threats amid the epidemic or trade wars, the relations between Belarus and China have been steadily growing, taking on new forms and tapping new areas, she said. "We are already creating new mechanisms to promote interaction at different levels, from government agencies to enterprises in different ways and methods," she said.
Anzhelika Nikitina noted that Belarus has been working to increase the share of its high-quality goods on the Chinese market. She expressed hope that Belarusian food products displayed at the national exhibition would meet China's high standards and requirements. “Belarus' exposition showcases the Belarus-China strategic project - Great Stone Industrial Park. Partnership with China is our conscious choice. In order to achieve results amid the current difficult world situation we need to be persistent. These difficulties are temporary, the epidemic will be over, and I believe that we will soon return to the usual pace of cooperation and continue building a community of common interests,” the deputy minister said.
First Deputy Chairman of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences (NASB) Sergei Chizhik stressed that China is the most important partner for the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus. “We work with regions and this testifies to the level of our contacts. We have agreements with 15 provinces of China, and our joint work is very diverse. We have been actively exploring the capabilities of the Great Stone Industrial Park and have set up enterprises there. We already have companies in the industrial park that produce unmanned aerial vehicles together with a big-name Chinese corporation. We have also been developing an innovation center in the Great Stone Industrial Park and establishing joint ventures with Guangdong Province. We have a lot of plans,” the NASB representative said.
