MINSK, 30 June (BelTA) – Belarus hopes to boost the trade with the European Union amid the thaw in the relations, Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei told reporters on 30 June, BelTA has learned.
“We hope that, given the recent positive trends in our relations, we will manage to increase our mutual trade with the EU. This will add to Belarus’ economic power, political sovereignty and independence. We are very much interested in this and ready to continue on this path and discuss with our colleagues any matters to eliminate all possible obstacles,” Vladimir Makei noted.
The minister pointed out that export diversification is an urgent challenge for Belarus. “We have seen that financial and economic crises happen from time to time. If you depend on one big partner, it is no good. We need to develop normal smooth relations with all our major partners in order to be able to solve any economic problems that may arise in the future,” Vladimir Makei emphasized.
