MINSK, 23 November (BelTA) – The main thing now for the CSTO is to maintain the solidarity and unity of all its members, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus Sergei Aleinik told reporters, BelTA has learned.
“The most important thing today is to preserve the solidarity and unity of all members of the Organization, which we demonstrated yesterday during the joint meeting of the CSTO Foreign Ministers Council, the CSTO Defense Ministers Council and the CSTO Committee of Secretaries of Security Councils. We admitted that we are going through a very difficult geopolitical period marked by the degradation of the Eurasian security architecture, devaluation of arms control and disarmament mechanisms, the emergence of hotbeds of tension along the perimeter of the western and southern borders of the CSTO zone of responsibility. Therefore, in these conditions, solidarity and cooperation come to the fore. This means military and political cooperation and defense partnerships, as well as the political unity of the member states,” the foreign minister said.
Sergei Aleinik emphasized that the Belarusian side is working to preserve and strengthen this unity. “We are looking for mutually acceptable solutions. Naturally, not all issues can be resolved immediately. Some issues took a lot of time and effort to discuss. A conciliation commission was working for two days on those draft documents that will be submitted to heads of state today. We managed to agree on almost all of the 15 documents that will be submitted for consideration and approval to the heads of state,” he said.
