MINSK, 16 November (BelTA) – Economic relations between Belarus and European Union countries develop in a positive manner, BelTA learned from Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Germany to Belarus Peter Dettmar on 16 November.
The ambassador said: “On the whole, one can say that economic relations between Belarus and the European Union have been developing in a positive manner for the last 1.5-2 years. The European Union’s interest in Belarus as an industrial site, an economic partner can be tracked by the number of delegations from European countries. The number grew considerably in this period.”
The diplomat stated that the years 2015 and 2016 were not simple. Trade and economic interaction between Belarus and the European Union experienced a downturn. “Growth has been resumed now. Belarus’ trade with the European Union has increased,” said the ambassador.
Peter Dettmar stressed that several investment projects were in the pipeline. “But time will have to pass between negotiations and decisions on making the investments and the projects getting implemented. It is not something peculiar to the European Union’s relations with Belarus. Things happen like that all over the world,” he explained.
